A mom and daughter are facing the law at the
Western Regional Supervising High Court, for piercing a fisherman’s anus
with a stick, causing damage to parts of his intestines.
Presenting
the case before the court presided over by Mr. Kofi Kpogo, Chief
Inspector Franklin Selby said Madam Agnes Miezah Bazayi (one of the
accused) owned a coconut tree behind Kojo Ezay (the victim’s) kitchen.
From time to time, the branches and leaves of Agnes’ coconut tree fell on the kitchen, damaging its roofing.
The prosecutor said, on 20th of May, 2013, Agnes told Kojo to prune the coconut tree to prevent his kitchen from further damage.
According to Chief Inspector Selby, Kojo engaged the services of a man, Kelamo to do the pruning.
While
Kelamo was pruning the tree, Agnes and her daughter used a long raffia
stick to pierce his buttocks and he fell down from aloft.
Threats to make Kelamo stop the pruning continued but the latter ignored all and climbed the tree to prune again.
While
on top of the tree, the two accused pierced his buttocks with the stick
again and in the process, it penetrated through the anus of Kelamo and
damaged some vital organs in his intestines, including his rectum.
He was rushed to the Eikwe Catholic Hospital.
Chief
Inspector Selby said Kelamo was referred to the Effia Nkwanta Regional
hospital in Sekondi and later to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra
where he underwent a major colostomy operation to form an artificial
anal opening in the body.
The victim cannot go to toilet through the normal anus but through a tube.
