A leader of the National Union of Road
Transport Worker, NURTW, in Oyo State has attributed the gruesome
killing of a unit chairman of the union, Rafiu Adebayo, to squabble over
a woman.
Mr. Adebayo, aka Ola Ruffy, was killed last Sunday some few meters away from his house at Apaana, Foko area, Ibadan.
Until his death, he was the chairman of Agbeni unit of the union.
A state leader of the union, who craved anonymity, alleged in Ibadan on Friday that Mr. Adebayo and his alleged killer had scores to settle, saying the former had snatched the latter’s wife before the incident. He said the wife snatching may have caused the suspect to commit the crime.
Meanwhile, a former State Chairman of the Union, Lateef Oloruntoki (alias Tokyo), has absolved himself and members of his group from the murder of the deceased.
Mr. Oloruntoki was responding to the speculation within the commercial motor drivers’ union in Ibadan, suggesting that he was behind the killing.
Already the state police command has arrested nine persons in connection to the killing.
Also, despite the plea by the state chairman of the union, Taofeek Oyerinde, for members to desist from staging a revenge attack, some members of the union burnt the chief suspect’s house at Born Foto area on Thursday.
